(ח) וְהִגַּדְתָּ לְבִנְךָ בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לֵאמֹר בַּעֲבוּר זֶה עָשָׂה יְהוָה לִי בְּצֵאתִי מִמִּצְרָיִם.

:וכאן הבן שואל אביו
. כאן במזיגת כוס שני הבן שואל את אביו מה נשתנה עכשיו שמוזגין כוס שני קודם אכילה
And here the child asks the father:
Here, at the filling of the second cup, the child asks the father 'Mah Nishtana' that we are filling the second cup prior to eating.
למה עוקרין את השולחן? אמרי דבי ר' ינאי: "כדי שיכירו תינוקות וישאלו."
אביי הוה יתיב קמיה דרבה. חזא דקא מדלי תכא מקמיה. אמר להו: "עדיין לא קא אכלינן אתו קא מעקרי תכא מיקמן". אמר ליה רבה: "פטרתן מלומר מה נשתנה:" ...

The School of R' Yannai said: " So the children will perceive (something unusual) and ask (about the reason)."

פטרתן מלומר מה נשתנה
דתניא לקמן חכם בנו שואלו ואם לאו שואל הוא לעצמו מה נשתנה וכיון ששאלו לנו מה נשתנה אין אנו צריכין לומר מה נשתנה אלא להשיב על דבריו (של בנו) לפי שנשתעבדנו
במצרים אנו עושין כל הדברים הללו
"You exempted us from reciting the 'Mah Nishtana' "
As we will learn in a Braitha later, "...If the child is wise, he will ask. If not, he will ask himself 'Mah Nishtana'. Since they ask us 'Mah Nishtana' we do not need to recite 'Mah Nishtana', just to answer the words of the child, that because we were slaves we do those things.

Maimonides (Rambam) Laws of Leavened and Unleavend Bread 7:3
וצריך לעשות שינוי בלילה הזה כדי שיראו הבנים וישאלו ויאמרו מה נשתנה הלילה הזה מכל הלילות עד שישיב להם ויאמר להם כך וכך אירע כך וכך היה. וכיצד משנה מחלק להם קליות ואגוזים ועוקרים השולחן מלפניהם קודם שיאכלו וחוטפין מצה זה מיד זה וכיוצא בדברים האלו.
And it is required to make changes during the night for the children to notice and they will ask and say "Mah Nishtana" this night from other nights, until you answer them by saying: "such and such happened".
