The Breaching of the Walls of Yerushalayim
in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and besieged it; in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city—
Question for Discussion:
Why did Hashem let the armies of Nebuchadrezzar breach the walls of Yerushalayim?
The Sin of the Golden Calf
And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, with the two tables of the testimony in his hand; tables that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables. And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses: ‘There is a noise of war in the camp.’ And he said: ‘It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome, but the noise of them that sing do I hear.’ And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses’anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mount.

The Spies were sent out on Rosh Chodesh Tammuz
And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: ’Send thou men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel; of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a prince among them.’ And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of the LORD; all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.

Weeping over Tammuz
Then He brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD’S house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat the women weeping for Tammuz*. Then said He unto me: ‘Hast thou seen this, O son of man? thou shalt again see yet greater abominations than these.’
*Tammuz is not the month in this case. Rather, it is the name of a Baylonian idol.

Question for Discussion:
What could the weeping over the idol Tammuz represent for the future?
Battle of Azekah
And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died; they were more who died with the hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword. Then spoke Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel: ‘Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; And thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.’ And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, Until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.
Questions for Discussion:
What were the miracles that took place during this battle?
We have seen 4 instances during the month of Tammuz that show dark times during the history fo the Jewish People. What do you think we, the Jewish people, should do so that Tammuz turns into a time of blessing, as it was during the Battle of Azekah?
