Avodat HaKodesh (“Sacred Work”) is a 13th-century compilation of laws relating to Shabbat and holidays. Like the Torat HaBayit, the other legal treatise written by the Rashba, the Avodat HaKodesh originally appeared in two versions, one long and the other abridged. The long version is not extant; this is the abridged version. It consists of two main sections. The first mainly addresses eruvin, or enclosures that legally expand the areas in which one can carry and travel on Shabbat. The second addresses permitted preparation of food on holidays, among other topics.
