עִנְוְתָן, עִנְוְו׳, עִינְ׳ m. (formed fr. עֲנָוָה) = עָנָיו, humble, forbearing, kind. Snh. 88ᵇ ע׳ ושפל ברך forbearing and low-kneed (polite). Sabb. 30ᵇ bot. לעולם יהא אדם ע׳ וכ׳ one should always be meek (patient) like Hillel, opp. קפדן impatient; (Ab. d’R. N. ch. XV עָנָו).
