פְּשִׁיטְתָּא f.n. MH [Syr. פְּשִׁיטְתָּא (= lit.: ‘the simple’) f., shortened from מַפַּקְתָּא פְּשִׁיטֽתָּא (= the simple version), f. of פַּשִּׁיט (= straight, simple); prob. so called for its literal (not periphrastic) rendering of the text.
