About This Text
Author: Yehuda Leib Krinsky
Mechokekei Yehudah is a 20th-century supercommentary by Rabbi Yehuda Leib Krinsky on Ibn Ezra’s Torah commentary. In his introduction, Krinsky explains that he compiled the work because the few existing supercommentaries on Ibn Ezra were not comprehensive and did not elaborate enough. In compiling Mechokekei Yehudah, Krinsky gathered interpretations from existing supercommentaries and used Ibn Ezra’s comments in one place to clarify the meaning of unclear interpretations elsewhere in the commentary. Mechokekei Yehudah has two parts: Yahel Ohr, consisting of brief explanations of Ibn Ezra’s commentary, and Karnei Ohr, consisting of lengthy analysis that cites prooftexts from biblical and rabbinic literature, resolves contradictions, and compares Ibn Ezra’s interpretations with those of other biblical commentators.
