About This Text
Tractate Maaser Sheni (“Second Tithe”) discusses the tithe separated from produce and brought to Jerusalem during Temple times or exchanged for money to be used for purchasing food there, as described in Deuteronomy 14:22-26. The tractate also discusses the laws of fruit produced by a tree in its fourth year (neta revai) and grapes growing on a vine in its fourth year (kerem revai), each of which is also consumed in Jerusalem or exchanged for money to be used for purchasing food there.
