About This Text
Nazir is a tractate in Seder Nashim (“Order of Women,” which addresses family law). Its six chapters discuss laws relating to the nazarite, or one who vows abstinence from wine, haircuts, and ritual impurity generated from contact with corpses. Among the topics analyzed are different types of nazarite vows and their implications, the sacrifices brought at the end of the fulfillment of a nazarite vow, and cases of uncertainty with regards to a nazarite’s purity status.
