בֵּית m.n. PBH ‘beth’ , name of the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet....[Lit.: ‘house’ see בַּיִת ); so called in allusion to the ancient Hebrew form of this letter, representing a house. cp. the second element in אָלֶף־בֵּית . cp. also בֵּיתָא .]
[Occurring only in the phrase בֵּית הַחָפְשִׁית , which prob. means ‘house of freedom’, ‘house of separatedness’, i.e. a house in which king Azariah lived separated because of his disease....According to another explanation בֵּית הַחָפְשִׁית denotes the house whose inhabitants, because of their illness, are exempt from duties. Prob. derived from חָפְשִׁי .]
The Talmud renders תִּירָס by בית תרייקי ....Before all בית תרייקי cannot be identical with Turkey, because the Babylonian Talmud was concluded about the end of the fifth century and the Talmud Yerushalmi, in which תִּירָס is rendered by תרֹקא ,
