One of the best pieces of advice I can give about speechwriting is that a good speech is generally an answer to the following question: What is the deepest, most important, most helpful truth I can tell at this particular moment? There really is something sacred about the answer to that question – when a speaker gets it right, and tells that truth in a way that the audience can receive it, the result can be pretty powerful.
