Yearning for the Final Redemption, Am I? - Part 6

Now that we discussed how to yearn for the Final Redemption and the Beis HaMikdash on a practical level regarding between man and G-d, let's discuss what is the definition of sinas chinam which destroyed the Beis HaMikdash. (see Bavli Yoma 9b and Yerushalmi Yoma 1:1)

What is the definition of sinas chinam in the 21st century? Jewish racism towards other groups in our nation.

How do we eradicate sinas chinam which destroyed the Beis HaMikdash?

Read Building Tomorrow by Rabbi Y. Y. Rubinstein which discusses Sinas Chinam - How it starts, spreads, and how to get rid of it for good.

Every day we say the following:

Sound the great shofar for our liberty, and raise a banner to gather our exiles, and gather us together from the four corners of the earth. Blessed are You, Adonoy, Gatherer of the dispersed of His people Israel.

Rav Shimon Schwab says that during exile, the Jewish people are split, not only

physically-geographically but also ideologically. One group does not see eye to eye with the other... people who do keep Torah and mitzvos are divided and subdivided many times among themselves (Rav Schwab on Prayer, page 468).

However, over 150 years ago the disciples of the Vilna Gaon (i.e. Eliyahu Kremer) and the disciples of the Baal Shem Tov (Yisroel ben Eliezer) had made peace with each other. While both groups maintained their differences, both developed great respect and eventually a mutual love for each other. So why should we be different today? The talmidim of our great yeshivos and kollelim who follow their Roshei HaYeshivah and devoted Chassidim who follow their Admorim, are all united in their absolute loyalty to Hashem’s Torah. Why can’t we tell the other, ‘I am deeply convinced that my shitah (my outlook), is emes. So are you. We honor each other’s conviction and sincerity without any yielding an inch of our own sacred territory.’” (Selected Essays by Rav Shimon Schwab, pages 72-79)

Every morning we say:

(4) Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone.

At Mincha, on Shabbos afternoon we say:

The prophet extols the beauty and virtue of the Jewish Nation:

(23) And who is like Your people Israel, a unique nation on earth, whom God went and redeemed as His people...

We are one, as being separate and distinct.

If we can't get we can't get along with each other, then what virtue is the prophet praising?

The Holy One Blessed be He says to the Jewish people: My beloved children, do I lack anything that I need to ask it of you? What do I, Hashem, ask of you? Only that you love one another, honor one another and revere one another.

(1) A song of ascents. Of David.

How good and how pleasant it is
that brothers dwell together.
Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brothers also to dwell together When the Holy One, blessed be He, will dwell in the Temple with Israel, who are called brothers and friends, and He too will be together with them.

What is the final Jewish solution?

By undertaking both of these initiatives we will rectify and reignite within us that yearning to have an intimate relationship with our fellow Jew and Creator!
