שַׁבָּת הַיּוֹם לַיהֹוָה. Sabbath is the day for Adonoy

מְאֹד צַהֲלוּ בְּרִנּוּנַי. Great jubilation with my joyous songs,

וְגַם הַרְבּוּ מַעֲדָנַי. Also add many of my delicacies;

אוֹתוֹ לִשְׁמוֹר כְּמִצְוַת יְהֹוָה. to preserve it like Adonoy's command.

Refrain:

שַׁבָּת הַיּוֹם לַיהֹוָה: -Sabbath is the day for Adonoy

מֵעֲבוֹר דֶּֽרֶךְ It is forbidden to travel on the road⁴⁹Beyond 2,000 cubits.

וּגְבוּלִים. or to overstep the boundaries;

מֵעֲשׂוֹת הַיּוֹם פְּעָלִים. or to engage in creative labor today;

לֶאֱכוֹל וְלִשְׁתּוֹת בְּהִלוּלִּים. eat and drink while praising God,

זֶה הַיּוֹם עָשָׂה יְהֹוָה. this day was created by Adonoy.

Refrain:

שַׁבָּת הַיּוֹם לַיהֹוָה: -Sabbath is the day for Adonoy

וְאִם תִּשְׁמְרֶֽנּוּ. And if you preserve it—

יָהּ יִנְצָרְךָ כְּבָבַת. God will preserve you like the apple of an eye,

אַתָּה וּבִנְךָ וְגַם הַבַּת. you, your son and daughter as well.

וְקָרָאתָ עֹֽנֶג לַשַּׁבָּת. Proclaim the pleasures of the Sabbath,

אָז תִּתְעַנַּג עַל יְהֹוָה. Then you will be granted pleasure by Adonoy.

אֱכוֹל מַשְׁמַנִּים וּמַעֲדַנִּים. Eat rich foods and delicacies,

וּמַטְעַמִּים הַרְבֵּה מִינִים. and tasty foods of many varieties,

אֱגוֹזֵי פֶֽרֶךְ וְרִמּוֹנִים. soft-shelled nuts and pomegranates,

וְאָכַלְתָּ וְשָׂבָֽעְתָּ eat and be filled

וּבֵרַכְתָּ אֶת יְהֹוָה. and bless Adonoy.

לַעֲרוֹךְ בַּשֻּׁלְחָן לֶֽחֶם חֲמוּדוֹת. To prepare for the table delightful breads,

לַעֲשׂוֹת הַיּוֹם שָׁלשׁ סְעוּדוֹת. to make for this day, three meals;

אֶת הַשֵּׁם הַנִּכְבָּד the glorious Name

לְבָרֵךְ וּלְהוֹדוֹת. to bless and thank,

שִׁקְדוּ וְשִׁמְרוּ be diligent and preserve [the Sabbath]

וַעֲשׂוּ בָנַי. and do it my son!
