The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:
דַּבֵּ֞ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אִשָּׁה֙ כִּ֣י תַזְרִ֔יעַ וְיָלְדָ֖ה זָכָ֑ר וְטָֽמְאָה֙ שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֔ים כִּימֵ֛י נִדַּ֥ת דְּוֺתָ֖הּ תִּטְמָֽא׃
Speak to the Israelite people thus: When a woman at childbirth bears a male, she shall be unclean seven days; she shall be unclean as at the time of her menstrual infirmity.—
The 52 portions of the bible correspond to the energy of each week. This is the gene energy for all of us to tap into for us to receive a wonderful positive flow and vibe.
This portion mostly talks about leprosy. In the time of the bible, they would be put in quarantine until they get better or until the high priest looks at them and through that they become cured. The quarantine’s purpose is not healing but rather a time of introspection.
There is a reason we are going to through a temporary tough time in order for us to receive a lesson.
Tazria comes the root word zera or seed. This is not about actual birth but rather the birth of the ideas the represent the mission of our soul. The egg is the passive receiver and the sperm is the active giver. This week each one of us should think about ten things that we would like our life to represent. Then chose one from the list and really try to make it happen this year.
Zohar Tazria explains that a person has a friend that you truly love, you are allowed to criticize that friend in order to help them. However, this criticism is not allowed if it would cause the friend embarrassment.
God operates this way with us as well. God’s reminder or criticism to help us will first come in a pain that is only obvious to the person themselves. This represents the leprosy that is under the skin. If the negativety continues, the leprosy will then appear on the skin but under the clothes and then if continues further it will appear on the outside.
We have to think about how we speak to people, how many friends we have and how many of those do we truly love. And if we cant identify someone we truly love that also means that its likely that no one truly loves you. The quantum understanding of the universe is that every element of the world is connected and affected by everything else. We don’t enjoy when negative things happen to us but unless we take responsibility then there is really nothing we can ever do about it.
From the Ari:
There are three types of leprosy which a metaphorically three types of pride or ego. The first type are people that are humble on the outside but they are truly prideful internally. The second, is someone who is prideful with their friends. And the third are those that are prideful with those that they think are better than them.
The baal shem tov, one of the greatest kabbalists of all time, shares with us that the ego can be worked on but can never be truly eliminated. The ego is the only blockage between us and the Creator. Diminishing ego is not the same as reducing ones motivation.
In order to help us with tools for diminishing the ego, lets explore tools recommended by Rabbi Chaim Luzzato in the Path of the Just. First lower yourself with your speech, your walk, how you sit, and how you move your body.
With regard to speech, a wise person speaks with kindness. When you speak with anyone, make sure your speech is smooth and soft, with respect and without humiliation.
With regard to walking, take small steps from toe to heal. Your chest should not be pushed out but also don’t lower your head too much.
With regard to sitting, wait until youve been invited to sit. If there are rows of sits, sit in a middle row.
With regard to being insulted, look at it as an opportunity to work on oneself. And be specifically careful in areas where people generally give you respect. Thats the easiest place for us to fall.
Just being aware of these things even if you don’t do them completely is already helping dramatically. Don’t do any of these things because you’re being polite. Rather the purpose of doing these things are to keep in mind that you are working on your ego and thats why your adjusting your behavior.
From the ethics of the fathers. Someone who deserves respect is someone who is looking to respect others. And the sign for this is someone who says hello first.
Ego doesn’t discriminate. Everyone is a client of the ego. It effects us all and it can never be totally removed. Other people can never be our problem. The solution is always found by looking internally.
We are living in a tough time now and this week’s portion is helpful especially for this time. All we need to do is to be aware of the ego. Just be aware of it. Next week start to make slow adjustments. Don’t do things all at once or too fast because you will end up with ego for doing things quickly.

Conducting oneself in lowliness: it is proper for this to be in one's speaking, walking, sitting and all of one's movements.
One must not walk in an overly erect posture nor with excessive heaviness, heel to toe, rather as one going to his occupations. Likewise our sages, of blessed memory, said: "If one walks with an overly erect posture even for four cubits, it is as if he pushes against the feet of the Divine Presence" (Berachot 43b), and it is written: "and those of lofty height will be cut down" (Isaiah 10:33).
In one's sitting: that one's place be among the lowly and not among the prominent. This is likewise stated explicitly in scripture: "Do not glorify yourself before a king, and do not stand in the place of great men; for it is better that he say to you, 'Come up here', than to humble you before a prince..." (Mishlei 25:6-7). Likewise our sages of blessed memory said: "distance two or three places from your [proper] place and sit until you are told 'come forward!', rather than to go up until they tell you 'move back!'" (Vayikra Raba 1:5).
Regarding those who diminish themselves, our sages of blessed memory, said: "whoever diminishes himself for the sake of Torah in this world is made great in the World to Come" (Bava Metzia 85b).
