(ב) וַיָּבֹ֤א דָוִד֙ נֹ֔בֶה אֶל־אֲחִימֶ֖לֶךְ הַכֹּהֵ֑ן וַיֶּחֱרַ֨ד אֲחִימֶ֜לֶךְ לִקְרַ֣את דָּוִ֗ד וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ מַדּ֤וּעַ אַתָּה֙ לְבַדֶּ֔ךָ וְאִ֖ישׁ אֵ֥ין אִתָּֽךְ׃
(2) David went to the priest Ahimelech at Nob. Ahimelech came out in alarm to meet David, and he said to him, “Why are you alone, and no one with you?”
(א) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יי אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל עַד־מָתַי֙ אַתָּה֙ מִתְאַבֵּ֣ל אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל וַאֲנִ֣י מְאַסְתִּ֔יו מִמְּלֹ֖ךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מַלֵּ֨א קַרְנְךָ֜ שֶׁ֗מֶן וְלֵ֤ךְ אֶֽשְׁלָחֲךָ֙ אֶל־יִשַׁ֣י בֵּֽית־הַלַּחְמִ֔י כִּֽי־רָאִ֧יתִי בְּבָנָ֛יו לִ֖י מֶֽלֶךְ׃ (ב) וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ אֵ֣יךְ אֵלֵ֔ךְ וְשָׁמַ֥ע שָׁא֖וּל וַהֲרָגָ֑נִי (ס) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יי עֶגְלַ֤ת בָּקָר֙ תִּקַּ֣ח בְּיָדֶ֔ךָ וְאָ֣מַרְתָּ֔ לִזְבֹּ֥חַ לַֽיי בָּֽאתִי׃
(1) And the LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and set out; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have decided on one of his sons to be king.” (2) Samuel replied, “How can I go? If Saul hears of it, he will kill me.” The LORD answered, “Take a heifer with you, and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’
(יט) וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח בָּהֶם֙ נְבִאִ֔ים לַהֲשִׁיבָ֖ם אֶל־יי וַיָּעִ֥ידוּ בָ֖ם וְלֹ֥א הֶאֱזִֽינוּ׃ (ס) (כ) וְר֣וּחַ אֱלֹקִ֗ים לָֽבְשָׁה֙ אֶת־זְכַרְיָה֙ בֶּן־יְהוֹיָדָ֣ע הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖ד מֵעַ֣ל לָעָ֑ם וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לָהֶ֜ם כֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר הָאֱלֹקִ֗ים לָמָה֩ אַתֶּ֨ם עֹבְרִ֜ים אֶת־מִצְוֺ֤ת יי וְלֹ֣א תַצְלִ֔יחוּ כִּֽי־עֲזַבְתֶּ֥ם אֶת־יי וַיַּֽעֲזֹ֥ב אֶתְכֶֽם׃ (כא) וַיִּקְשְׁר֣וּ עָלָ֔יו וַיִּרְגְּמֻ֥הוּ אֶ֖בֶן בְּמִצְוַ֣ת הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ בַּחֲצַ֖ר בֵּ֥ית יי׃ (כב) וְלֹא־זָכַ֞ר יוֹאָ֣שׁ הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ הַחֶ֙סֶד֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֜ה יְהוֹיָדָ֤ע אָבִיו֙ עִמּ֔וֹ וַֽיַּהֲרֹ֖ג אֶת־בְּנ֑וֹ וּכְמוֹת֣וֹ אָמַ֔ר יֵ֥רֶא יי וְיִדְרֹֽשׁ׃ (פ)
(19) The LORD sent prophets among them to bring them back to Him; they admonished them but they would not pay heed. (20) Then the spirit of God enveloped Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest; he stood above the people and said to them, “Thus God said: Why do you transgress the commandments of the LORD when you cannot succeed? Since you have forsaken the LORD, He has forsaken you.” (21) They conspired against him and pelted him with stones in the court of the House of the LORD, by order of the king. (22) King Joash disregarded the loyalty that his father Jehoiada had shown to him, and killed his son. As he was dying, he said, “May the LORD see and requite it.”
(טו) כִּי֩ יי אֱלֹקֶ֜יךָ מִתְהַלֵּ֣ךְ ׀ בְּקֶ֣רֶב מַחֲנֶ֗ךָ לְהַצִּֽילְךָ֙ וְלָתֵ֤ת אֹיְבֶ֙יךָ֙ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ וְהָיָ֥ה מַחֲנֶ֖יךָ קָד֑וֹשׁ וְלֹֽא־יִרְאֶ֤ה בְךָ֙ עֶרְוַ֣ת דָּבָ֔ר וְשָׁ֖ב מֵאַחֲרֶֽיךָ׃ (ס)
(15) Since the LORD your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you, let your camp be holy; let Him not find anything unseemly among you and turn away from you.
(ח) וַיִּשְׁלְח֡וּ וַיַּאַסְפוּ֩ אֶת־כָּל־סַרְנֵ֨י פְלִשְׁתִּ֜ים אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ מַֽה־נַּעֲשֶׂ֗ה לַֽאֲרוֹן֙ אֱלֹקֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ גַּ֣ת יִסֹּ֔ב אֲר֖וֹן אֱלֹקֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיַּסֵּ֕בּוּ אֶת־אֲר֖וֹן אֱלֹקֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (ס)
(8) They sent messengers and assembled all the lords of the Philistines and asked, “What shall we do with the Ark of the God of Israel?” They answered, “Let the Ark of the God of Israel be removed to Gath.” So they moved the Ark of the God of Israel [to Gath].
(כג) וְה֣וּא ׀ מְדַבֵּ֣ר עִמָּ֗ם וְהִנֵּ֣ה אִ֣ישׁ הַבֵּנַ֡יִם עוֹלֶ֞ה גָּלְיָת֩ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֨י שְׁמ֤וֹ מִגַּת֙ ממערות [מִמַּעַרְכ֣וֹת] פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַיְדַבֵּ֖ר כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע דָּוִֽד׃
(23) While he was talking to them, the champion, whose name was Goliath, the Philistine of Gath, stepped forward from the Philistine ranks and spoke the same words as before; and David heard him.
(נא) וַיָּ֣רָץ דָּ֠וִד וַיַּעֲמֹ֨ד אֶל־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֜י וַיִּקַּ֣ח אֶת־חַ֠רְבּוֹ וַֽיִּשְׁלְפָ֤הּ מִתַּעְרָהּ֙ וַיְמֹ֣תְתֵ֔הוּ וַיִּכְרָת־בָּ֖הּ אֶת־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַיִּרְא֧וּ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛ים כִּֽי־מֵ֥ת גִּבּוֹרָ֖ם וַיָּנֻֽסוּ׃ (נב) וַיָּקֻ֣מוּ אַנְשֵׁי֩ יִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל וִיהוּדָ֜ה וַיָּרִ֗עוּ וַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙ אֶת־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים עַד־בּוֹאֲךָ֣ גַ֔יְא וְעַ֖ד שַׁעֲרֵ֣י עֶקְר֑וֹן וַֽיִּפְּל֞וּ חַֽלְלֵ֤י פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ שַׁעֲרַ֔יִם וְעַד־גַּ֖ת וְעַד־עֶקְרֽוֹן׃
(51) so David ran up and stood over the Philistine, grasped his sword and pulled it from its sheath; and with it he dispatched him and cut off his head. When the Philistines saw that their warrior was dead, they ran. (52) The men of Israel and Judah rose up with a war cry and they pursued the Philistines all the way to Gai and up to the gates of Ekron; the Philistines fell mortally wounded along the road to Shaarim up to Gath and Ekron.
(יב) וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ עַבְדֵ֤י אָכִישׁ֙ אֵלָ֔יו הֲלוֹא־זֶ֥ה דָוִ֖ד מֶ֣לֶךְ הָאָ֑רֶץ הֲל֣וֹא לָזֶ֗ה יַעֲנ֤וּ בַמְּחֹלוֹת֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הִכָּ֤ה שָׁאוּל֙ באלפו [בַּאֲלָפָ֔יו] וְדָוִ֖ד ברבבתו [בְּרִבְבֹתָֽיו׃]
(12) The courtiers of Achish said to him, “Why, that’s David, king of the land! That’s the one of whom they sing as they dance: Saul has slain his thousands; David, his tens of thousands.”
(יג) וַיָּ֧שֶׂם דָּוִ֛ד אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה בִּלְבָב֑וֹ וַיִּרָ֣א מְאֹ֔ד מִפְּנֵ֖י אָכִ֥ישׁ מֶֽלֶךְ־גַּֽת׃
(13) These words worried David and he became very much afraid of King Achish of Gath.

(1) Of David, when he feigned madness in the presence of Abimelech, who turned him out, and he left. (2) I bless the LORD at all times; praise of Him is ever in my mouth. (3) I glory in the LORD; let the lowly hear it and rejoice. (4) Exalt the LORD with me; let us extol His name together. (5) I turned to the LORD, and He answered me; He saved me from all my terrors. (6) Men look to Him and are radiant; let their faces not be downcast. (7) Here was a lowly man who called, and the LORD listened, and delivered him from all his troubles. (8) The angel of the LORD camps around those who fear Him and rescues them. (9) Taste and see how good the LORD is; happy the man who takes refuge in Him! (10) Fear the LORD, you His consecrated ones, for those who fear Him lack nothing. (11) Lions have been reduced to starvation, but those who turn to the LORD shall not lack any good. (12) Come, my sons, listen to me; I will teach you what it is to fear the LORD. (13) Who is the man who is eager for life, who desires years of good fortune? (14) Guard your tongue from evil, your lips from deceitful speech. (15) Shun evil and do good, seek amity and pursue it. (16) The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, His ears attentive to their cry. (17) The face of the LORD is set against evildoers, to erase their names from the earth. (18) They cry out, and the LORD hears, and saves them from all their troubles. (19) The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; those crushed in spirit He delivers. (20) Though the misfortunes of the righteous be many, the LORD will save him from them all, (21) Keeping all his bones intact, not one of them being broken. (22) One misfortune is the deathblow of the wicked; the foes of the righteous shall be ruined. (23) The LORD redeems the life of His servants; all who take refuge in Him shall not be ruined.

(1) For the leader; on yonath elem reḥokim. Of David. A michtam; when the Philistines seized him in Gath. (2) Have mercy on me, O God, for men persecute me; all day long my adversary oppresses me. (3) My watchful foes persecute me all day long; many are my adversaries, O Exalted One. (4) When I am afraid, I trust in You, (5) in God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can mortals do to me? (6) All day long they cause me grief in my affairs, they plan only evil against me. (7) They plot, they lie in ambush; they watch my every move, hoping for my death. (8) Cast them out for their evil; subdue peoples in Your anger, O God. (9) You keep count of my wanderings; put my tears into Your flask, into Your record. (10) Then my enemies will retreat when I call on You; this I know, that God is for me. (11) In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, (12) in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can man do to me? (13) I must pay my vows to You, O God; I will render thank offerings to You. (14) For You have saved me from death, my foot from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
(א) שִׁגָּי֗וֹן לְדָ֫וִ֥ד אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֥ר לַיי עַל־דִּבְרֵי־כ֝֗וּשׁ בֶּן־יְמִינִֽי׃ (ב) יי אֱ֭לֹקַי בְּךָ֣ חָסִ֑יתִי הוֹשִׁיעֵ֥נִי מִכָּל־רֹ֝דְפַ֗י וְהַצִּילֵֽנִי׃ (ג) פֶּן־יִטְרֹ֣ף כְּאַרְיֵ֣ה נַפְשִׁ֑י פֹּ֝רֵ֗ק וְאֵ֣ין מַצִּֽיל׃ (ד) יי אֱ֭לֹקַי אִם־עָשִׂ֣יתִי זֹ֑את אִֽם־יֶשׁ־עָ֥וֶל בְּכַפָּֽי׃ (ה) אִם־גָּ֭מַלְתִּי שֽׁוֹלְמִ֥י רָ֑ע וָאֲחַלְּצָ֖ה צוֹרְרִ֣י רֵיקָֽם׃ (ו) יִֽרַדֹּ֥ף אוֹיֵ֨ב ׀ נַפְשִׁ֡י וְיַשֵּׂ֗ג וְיִרְמֹ֣ס לָאָ֣רֶץ חַיָּ֑י וּכְבוֹדִ֓י ׀ לֶעָפָ֖ר יַשְׁכֵּ֣ן סֶֽלָה׃ (ז) ק֘וּמָ֤ה יי ׀ בְּאַפֶּ֗ךָ הִ֭נָּשֵׂא בְּעַבְר֣וֹת צוֹרְרָ֑י וְע֥וּרָה אֵ֝לַ֗י מִשְׁפָּ֥ט צִוִּֽיתָ׃ (ח) וַעֲדַ֣ת לְ֭אֻמִּים תְּסוֹבְבֶ֑ךָּ וְ֝עָלֶ֗יהָ לַמָּר֥וֹם שֽׁוּבָה׃ (ט) יי יָדִ֪ין עַ֫מִּ֥ים שָׁפְטֵ֥נִי יי כְּצִדְקִ֖י וּכְתֻמִּ֣י עָלָֽי׃ (י) יִגְמָר־נָ֬א רַ֨ע ׀ רְשָׁעִים֮ וּתְכוֹנֵ֪ן צַ֫דִּ֥יק וּבֹחֵ֣ן לִ֭בּ֗וֹת וּכְלָי֗וֹת אֱלֹקִ֥ים צַדִּֽיק׃ (יא) מָֽגִנִּ֥י עַל־אֱלֹקִ֑ים מ֝וֹשִׁ֗יעַ יִשְׁרֵי־לֵֽב׃ (יב) אֱ֭לֹקִים שׁוֹפֵ֣ט צַדִּ֑יק וְ֝אֵ֗ל זֹעֵ֥ם בְּכָל־יֽוֹם׃ (יג) אִם־לֹ֣א יָ֭שׁוּב חַרְבּ֣וֹ יִלְט֑וֹשׁ קַשְׁתּ֥וֹ דָ֝רַ֗ךְ וַֽיְכוֹנְנֶֽהָ׃ (יד) וְ֭לוֹ הֵכִ֣ין כְּלֵי־מָ֑וֶת חִ֝צָּ֗יו לְֽדֹלְקִ֥ים יִפְעָֽל׃ (טו) הִנֵּ֥ה יְחַבֶּל־אָ֑וֶן וְהָרָ֥ה עָ֝מָ֗ל וְיָ֣לַד שָֽׁקֶר׃ (טז) בּ֣וֹר כָּ֭רָֽה וַֽיַּחְפְּרֵ֑הוּ וַ֝יִּפֹּ֗ל בְּשַׁ֣חַת יִפְעָֽל׃ (יז) יָשׁ֣וּב עֲמָל֣וֹ בְרֹאשׁ֑וֹ וְעַ֥ל קָ֝דְקֳד֗וֹ חֲמָס֥וֹ יֵרֵֽד׃ (יח) אוֹדֶ֣ה יי כְּצִדְק֑וֹ וַ֝אֲזַמְּרָ֗ה שֵֽׁם־יי עֶלְיֽוֹן׃
(1) Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD, concerning Cush, a Benjaminite. 1 (2) O LORD, my God, in You I seek refuge; deliver me from all my pursuers and save me, (3) lest, like a lion, they tear me apart, rending in pieces, and no one save me. (4) O LORD, my God, if I have done such things, if my hands bear the guilt of wrongdoing, (5) if I have dealt evil to my ally— I who rescued my foe without reward— (6) then let the enemy pursue and overtake me; let him trample my life to the ground, and lay my body in the dust.Selah. (7) Rise, O LORD, in Your anger; assert Yourself against the fury of my foes; bestir Yourself on my behalf; You have ordained judgment. (8) Let the assembly of peoples gather about You, with You enthroned above, on high. (9) The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, O LORD, for the righteousness and blamelessness that are mine. (10) Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; he who probes the mind and conscience is God the righteous. (11) I look to God to shield me; the deliverer of the upright. (12) God vindicates the righteous; God pronounces doom each day. (13) If one does not turn back, but whets his sword, bends his bow and aims it, (14) then against himself he readies deadly weapons, and makes his arrows sharp. (15) See, he hatches evil, conceives mischief, and gives birth to fraud. (16) He has dug a pit and deepened it, and will fall into the trap he made. (17) His mischief will recoil upon his own head; his lawlessness will come down upon his skull. (18) I will praise the LORD for His righteousness, and sing a hymn to the name of the LORD Most High.
(א) שגיון לדוד. מנחם אמר שגם זה אחד משמות הזמר ע"ש הכלי וכן פי' על שגיונות, ורבותינו פירשו ל' משגה שנתודה ונתפלל על השגיון שאמר שירה על מפלתו של שאול כמו שנאמר וידבר דוד ליי וגו' (שמואל ב כ״ב:א׳) אבל ענין המזמור אינו מוכיח על כך, ואומר אני שאמרו על עסקי ישבי בנוב (שם כא) שבא עליו על עונשו של שאול כמו שפירשו רבותינו שאמר לו הקב"ה על ידך נטרד דואג האדומי על ידך נהרג שאול ובניו כו' (כדאית' בחלק שגיאות שבקש דוד להקב"ה להמסר ביד שונא ולא יכלה זרעו, סא"א) והפך דוד את תפלתו והתפלל שלא יפול ביד אויב וכן פתרונו משגה שר דוד ליי על ששגג לומר להקב"ה למוסרו ביד אויב על דברי שאול שנהרג על ידו, ד"א על שגיון כנף המעיל אשר כרת לשאול: (ב) כוש. מה כושי משונה בעורו אף שאול משונה במעשיו:
