למען תחיה אתה וזרעך, so that both you and your offspring will experiece this life לאהבה את ה' אלוקיך, when I said to choose “life,” I did not mean that you should keep the laws for the sake of the reward in store for you, but that you should make this choice for the sake of true “life.” This alone is sufficient reason to choose this option. Whatever satisfaction you experience during life on earth should be with a view to the kind of life in store for you after your body has died.

Questions for Consideration:
1. These instructions are given before the first time that God appears before the Israelite people with Moses as mediator. Why is it important that boundaries are imposed? Who are the boundaries for?
Prompt for Reflection & Breakout Rooms:
1. Write or think about three sentences that describe what life has been like for you post-"summer", especially as you transition back after Labor Day weekend.
2. Reflect on what these sentences tell you about the work you need to do to help yourself “succeed” this year (you define success in your own terms).
3. Share 2-3 goals that emerge from this reflection with a partner.
What boundaries do you need to set for yourself (or for others!) to ensure these goals can be met? When are you unsure if a boundary should be broken?
