Friend,    With Purim right around the corner, Sefaria is busy preparing for the “Purim bump” — the increase in users who visit Sefaria to celebrate the holiday. Last year, more than 100,000 people visited the library or used the app to connect with the holiday or read along with Megillat Esther. This year we’re expecting even more.    To help with our text and tech preparations ahead of this busy time, a generous Jewish foundation is matching all gifts to the library up to $36,000.    Please give today to help us meet your learning needs!

(1) Mourn for Zion and her cities, like a woman giving birth, like a maiden wrapped in sack-cloth for the husband of her youth

(2) Mourn for the palace that was abandoned like a sheep’s negligence of its flock,

(3) and for the entry of God’s blasphemers into her holy sanctuary.

(4) Mourn for God’s exiled servants who beautifully sang her songs,

(5) and for their blood that was spilled like the waters of her rivers.

(6) Mourn for the chatter of her dancers whose silence fills her cities,

(7) and for the assembly that was destroyed and the abolition of her Sanhedrin.

(8) Mourn for the daily sacrifices and the redemption of her firstborn,

(9) and for the desecration of the Temple vessels and the altar of her incense.

(10) Mourn for the babes of her kings, noble children of David,

(11) and for their beauty that was darkened at the time of the removal of her crowns.

(12) Mourn for the glory that was dispelled at the time of the destruction of her Holy of Holies,

(13) and for the oppressor who tormented her whilst girding her in sackcloth.

(14) Mourn for the wounds and the many blows that struck her sainted ones,

(15) and for the smashing on the rock of her young children.

(16) Mourn for the joy of her haters who rejoiced over her downfall,

(17) and for the torment of her pure and noble citizens.

(18) Mourn for the sins that caused her to deviate from the true path,

(19) and for her numerous congregations, which were tarnished and blackened.

(20) Mourn for the voices of her abusers as her rising corpses mounted,

(21) and for the jeering mobs within her holy courtyards.

(22) Mourn for Your name which was desecrated in the mouths of those who stand against her,

(23) and for their prayers which they cry out to you, heed and hear her words....

(24) Mourn for Zion and her cities, like a woman giving birth, like a maiden wrapped in sack-cloth for the husband of her youth

רבי יצחק בן רבי יהודה אִבְּן גַיַאת

9 HEIKHAL ADONAI 3:48

The temple of the Lord! the temple of the Lord! the

temple of the Lord! its busy throng is gone, because of

the multitude of my presumptuous sins.

The temple of the Lord! the temple …

On the day that from the holy place my cherub

departed, I will cry out wo! for the time of my grief;

my heart melteth from the strength of my pain; my

countenance exhibits meagerness for the greatness of

my iniquities, and sounds of dread assail my ears.

The temple of the Lord! the temple …

My Protector when I sinned destroyed my glory: from

on high unto the earth he hath cast my crown; from

intense woe the hairs of my body stand erect; waters

of gall and wormwood have become to me streams of

delight; my sun too hath been changed to darkness

before my eyes.

The temple of the Lord! the temple …

The enemies planned devices, and threw lots against

me; many myriads died in dread of the terror of the

sword; he led to slaughter my Levites and priests, the

people of God, of old sanctified at Sinai.

The temple of the Lord! the temple …

When wilt thou comfort thy mourning children? when

wilt thou restore the remnant of the chosen ones to

Zion? Yea, from there remove all false worship; and

then will I exclaim, when thou, O Lord! cuttest off thy

enemies, “How great are thy works, O Lord!”

The temple of the Lord! the temple …
