(טז) וּמַלְתֶּ֕ם אֵ֖ת עׇרְלַ֣ת לְבַבְכֶ֑ם וְעׇ֨רְפְּכֶ֔ם לֹ֥א תַקְשׁ֖וּ עֽוֹד׃
(16) Cut away, the thickening (circumcise the foreskin) of your hearts and stiffen your necks no more.
(10) You will eat, you will be satisfied, and you shall bless the The Holy One your G*d for the good land which G8d has given you.
(א) בֶּן זוֹמָא אוֹמֵר... אֵיזֶהוּ עָשִׁיר, הַשָּׂמֵחַ בְּחֶלְקוֹ, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (תהלים קכח) יְגִיעַ כַּפֶּיךָ כִּי תֹאכֵל אַשְׁרֶיךָ וְטוֹב לָךְ. ...
(1) Ben Zoma said:...Who is rich? He who rejoices in his lot, as it is said: “You shall eat from labor of your hands, you shall be happy and goodness shall be yours” (Psalms 128:2)
(14) And your heart will exalt itself and you forget the The Holy One your God—who freed you from the land of Egypt, the house of bondage;
(א) ומלתם את ערלת לבבכם אם כן ראוי שתסירו את ערלת שכלכם והוא שתתבוננו להסיר כל טעות מוליד דעות כוזבות: (ב) וערפכם לא תקשו עוד ובסור קושי העורף המונע מלפנות אל הראוי תפנו להכיר את בוראכם ותראו...
(1) ומלתם את ערלת לבבכם, therefore, it is appropriate that you remove the “foreskin,” prejudices with which your intelligence is afflicted, so that you will realize the errors you have made in your world outlook based on false premises. (2) וערפכם לא תקשו עוד, so that you will no longer be stiff-necked, a condition which prevents you from truly recognizing your Creator....
(5) And your God יהוה will bring you to the land that your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and [God] will make you more prosperous and more numerous than your ancestors. (6) Then your God יהוה will circumcise
your heart and the hearts of your offspring—to love your God יהוה with all your heart and soul, in order that you may live.
Rabbi Shai Held brilliantly asks, who is it that is doing the transformation: is it us ourselves, or is it the Holy One of Blessing?

(10) For the land that you are about to enter and possess, she is not like the land of Egypt from which you have been sent out. There the seed you sowed had to be watered by your footsteps, like a vegetable garden; (11) but the land you are about to cross into and possess, a land of hills and valleys, drinks up its water from the rains of heaven. (12) It is a land which the Breath of Life YHVH** your G8d looks after, on which the Breath of Life your G8d always keeps their eye, from year’s beginning to year’s end. (13) If you surely listen to the Mitzvot that I command you this day and love the Breath of Life your G8d and serving the Holy One with all your heart and soul, (14) I will give the rain for your land in season, the early rain and the late. You shall gather in your new grain and wine and oil— (15) I will give grass in the fields for your cattle—and thus you shall eat and be satisfied. (16) Guard your hearts, do not open them and turn aside toward other gods and bow to them. (17) For the Holy One's anger will flare up against you, and G8d will shut up the skies so that there will be no rain and the ground will not yield its produce; and you will soon perish from the good land that the G8d is giving to you.
**YHVH: the letters of the unpronounceable name of G8d make the sound of breathing, so translating YHVH as the interbreathing Breath of Live as per ~Rabbi Arthur Waskow *G8d is God, with the 8 of infinity and of one more than the completion/ perfection of 7
(18) Place these My words upon your hearts: bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol between your eyes, (19) and teach them to your children, speak of them when you sit in your home and when you walk on your path, when you lie down and when you rise up; (20) and write them on the mezuzot of your house and on your gates—
These passages are in the second paragraph of the Shema, but here the command to love G8d has moved from singular to plural, or communal. In order to know the Divine at all times, not to take blessings for granted. In Egypt, if you worked hard, you could irrigate from the Nile. You could take the blessings of land and food for granted.
The shema itself is love rippling outward from the center, beginning between your eyes and upon the heart of a person to your family/children, to the borderlines of your home, your gates, and into the outside world, where, earlier we learn to love the stranger. It is parallel to the journey from Mitzrayim, the narrow straits, to the wide skies of freedom. Adapted from teachings by Rabbi Natan Margalit
