...ולכך אומרים קודם כל תפלה הריני מקבל עלי מצות עשה של ואהבת לרעך וגו׳, כי הכל הוא אחדות גמור כמו התורה שנקראת תורה בהצטרף כל האותיות כולן, ואף אם רואה בחבירו שום דבר רע, ישנא הרע שבו, אך החלק הקדוש יאהבנו מאד כנפשו, כי הבעש״ט נבג״מ אמר שהצדיק הגמור שאין רע בקרבו אין רואה שום רע על שום אדם, אך מי שרואה שום רע בחבירו, הענין הוא כמו שמסתכל במראה, אם פניו מטונפין רואה גם כן במראה כך, ואם פניו נקיים אינו רואה במראה שום דופי, כמו שהוא כך רואה, וזהו (ויקרא י״ט, י״ח) ואהבת לרעך כמוך, פי׳ כמוך כמו שאם יודע האדם בעצמו שום רע בקרבו משום הא אינו שונא את עצמו אף ששונא הרע שבקרבו, כך גם כן על חבירו, כי באמת הכל אחד,כי הלא גם לחבירו יש גם כן חלק אלוה כמוהו ויש לו אות בתורה...
And therefore one should say before prayer "I am accepting on myself the positive commandment to love my fellow Jew" because we're all one unity, just like the Torah is only complete with all its letters. And even if you see something negative in your friend, you should hate the element of evil, but the holy part of him you should love a lot, like yourself. Because the Baal Shem Tov says that a righteous person that has no evil in his heart, won't see any evil in someone else. But one who does see evil in his friend, it's as if he's looking at a mirror; if his face appears dirty, your face is dirty, if his face is clean, your face is clean. Love your neighbor as yourself means, just like in your self, you don't hate yourself despite knowing your shortcoming, so too with your fellow Jews, for they also have a piece of God inside of them...
