Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.
What does "joy" mean to you?
Praised are You, Lord out God King of the universe, who with wisdom fashioned the human body, creating openings, arteries, glands and organs, marvelous in structure, intricate in design. Should but one of them, by being blocked or opened, fail to function, it would be impossible to exist. Praised are you, Lord, healer of all flesh who sustains our bodies in wondrous ways.
This is the traditional Jewish blessing recited after one uses the bathroom. What does this blessing teach us about how to relate to our bodies and our health?
(10) Rabbi Eliezer says: The honor of your fellow should be as precious to you as your own...
How do you show honor? How do you feel honored?
He said to them: Go out and see what is a straight path that a person should cling to. Rabbi Eliezer says: A good eye. Rabbi Yehoshua says: A good friend. Rabbi Yosi says: A good neighbor. Rabbi Shimon says: Seeing the consequences of one's actions. Rabbi Elazar says: A good heart. He said to them: I see the words of Rabbi Elazar ben Arakh [as better than] all of yours, because your words are included in his.
What does it mean to have "a good heart" according to this text? What does it mean for you?
Hillel said: do not separate yourself from the community, Do not trust in yourself until the day of your death, Do not judge your fellow man until you have reached his place.
What is the role of community in your life? What is your role in your community?
