"May the Lord repay your deeds, and may your reward be complete from the Lord, God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge" (Ruth 2:12).
Rabbi Avin said: We have heard that the dawn has wings, as it is said, "If I rise on the wings of dawn" (Psalms 139:9).
And the earth has wings, as it is said: “From the wing [i.e., edge, corner] of the earth we have heard songs” (Isaiah 24:16).
And the sun has wings, as it is said, “The sun of righteousness will shine for you who revere My name, and there is healing in its wings” (Malachi 3:20).
And beasts have wings, as it is said, “And the sound of the wings of beasts” (Ezekiel 3:13).
And [angelic] cherubim have wings, as it is said: “For the cherubim spread out their wings” (I Kings 8:7).
And [angelic] seraphim have wings, as it is said: “The seraphim stood above Him; each one had six wings” (Isaiah 6:2).
Come and see how great is the power of the righteous, and how great is the power of those who act righteously, and how great is the power of those who perform deeds of kindness--for they do not take refuge in the shadow of dawn, nor in the shadow of the earth, nor in the shadow of the sun, nor in the shadow of beasts, nor in the shadow of cherubim, nor in the shadow of seraphim. ּBut in whose shadow do they take refuge? In the shadow of the One Who Spoke and the World Came into Being, as it is stated, “How precious is your kindness, O God; human beings take refuge in the shadow of your wings” (Psalms 36:8).
