R. Simon said: When the Holy One, blessed be God, came to create Adam, the ministering angels formed themselves into groups and parties. Some of them said, “Don't create him,” while others urged, “create him,” as it is written, "Lovingkindness and truth met, justice and peace kissed" (Psalms 85:11). Lovingkindness said, “Create him because he will do acts of loving kindness.” Truth said, “Don't create him, because he is full of lies.” Justice said, “Create him because he will perform acts of justice.” Peace said, “Don't create him, because he is full of conflict.” So what did God do? God held Truth and cast it to the ground, as it is written, "And truth will be sent to the earth" (Daniel 8:12). The ministering angels said before the Holy One, "Sovereign of the Universe! Why do you despise Your seal [truth]? Let Truth arise from the earth!" Hence it is written, "Let truth spring up from the earth." (Psalms 85:12)…Rav Huna, the Rabbi of Tziporin said; While the ministering angels were arguing with each other and disputing with each other, the Holy One created the first human. God said to them, "Why are you arguing? Adam has already been created."

(1) Now the Human knew his wife Eve, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have acquired a person with the help of Hashem" (2) She then bore his brother Abel. Abel became a keeper of sheep, and Cain became a tiller of the soil. (3) In the course of time, Cain brought an offering to ה' from the fruit of the soil; (4) and Abel, for his part, brought the choicest of the firstlings of his flock. ה' paid heed to Abel and his offering, (5) but to Cain and his offering [God] paid no heed. Cain was much distressed and his face fell. (6) And ה' said to Cain, “Why are you distressed, And why is your face fallen?
(7) Surely, if you do right, There is uplift.
But if you do not do right Sin couches at the door; Its urge is toward you, Yet you can be its master.”
(8) Cain said to his brother Abel … and when they were in the field, Cain set upon his brother Abel and killed him. (9) ה' said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” (10) “What have you done? Hark, your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground! (11) Therefore, you shall be more cursed than the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. (12) If you till the soil, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. You shall become a ceaseless wanderer on earth.” (13) Cain said to ה', “My punishment is too great to bear! (14) Since You have banished me this day from the soil, and I must avoid Your presence and become a restless wanderer on earth—anyone who meets me may kill me!” (15) ה' said to him, “I promise, if anyone kills Cain, sevenfold vengeance shall be exacted.” And ה' put a mark on Cain, lest anyone who met him should kill him. (16) Cain left the presence of ה' and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

...as we found with Cain, who killed his brother, as it is stated concerning him: “The voice of your brother’s blood [demei] cries out to Me from the ground” (Genesis 4:10). The verse does not state: Your brother’s blood [dam], in the singular, but rather: “Your brother’s blood [demei],” in the plural. This serves to teach that the loss of both his brother’s blood and the blood of his brother’s offspring are ascribed to Cain. ... Therefore, Adam the first man was created alone, to teach you that with regard to anyone who destroys one soul from the Jewish people, the verse considers him as if he destroyed an entire world, And anyone who sustains one soul from the Jewish people, the verse considers him as if he sustained an entire world...

The Sages taught the following baraita: For two and a half years, Beit Shammai and Beit Hillel disagreed. These say: It would have been preferable had man not been created than to have been created. And those said: It is preferable for man to have been created than had he not been created. Ultimately, they were counted and concluded: It would have been preferable had man not been created than to have been created. However, now that he has been created, he should examine his past actions. And some say: He should manifest positive future actions.
