Act 3
The Historical Accuracy of the Hagar Story
From: The Bible as History, by Ian Wilson
- Indicative of the date for Abraham may be the fact that Abraham fathered his first son Ishmael by his wife Sarah’s servant girl, surrogacy-style with Sarah’s consent.
- As evident from cuneiform tablets from Nuzi (in northern Mesopotamia), dating from c. 1800 BCE, if a man’s wife was barren, it was her positive duty to find another woman to bear her husband’s children. The resultant offspring thereupon became hers as if she had born them herself.
