There are so many ways to use Sefaria to deepen Torah learning at any level. But there are a few tips that are especially helpful for educators. Whether you teach in a day school, supplemental, adult education, or peer learning setting, below are five resources you'll want to know about when using Sefaria.
1. Find Sources with Sefaria Topic Pages
Topic pages aggregate relevant sources on a specific theme with short bits of contextualizing information. Browse sefaria.org/topics or look up any topic in the search bar: topic page results appear with a hashtag icon (#).
2. Switch or Compare Translations
We offer a variety of translations on Sefaria when possible so that you can choose the best option for your students — or explore their differences! Click on a passage to open the resource panel and select ‘Translations.’
3. Compare Texts Side-by-Side
How do the two versions of the Ten Commandments compare, or the different biblical descriptions of the events surrounding the Golden Calf? Sefaria has a feature for that. Tap on any verse and select ‘Compare Text’ in the resource panel.
4. Use a Built-In Dictionary Tool
On Sefaria, you can highlight (or long-press, on mobile) any Hebrew or Aramaic word to view definitions pulled from our collection of biblical and talmudic dictionaries. Yep, it’s that easy.
5. Schedule a (free!) workshop
Our in-house learning team offers a variety of trainings and workshops about using Sefaria with students. Topics range from student creativity to b’nai mitzvah tools and are customizable to your needs. Get started at bit.ly/sefariaworkshops.
