The Gate That Was Shut Shelomoh Ibn Gevirol

[Zion:]

“The gate that was shut - oh, arise and open it!

The gazelle that ran away - oh, send him to me!

On the day You come to me and lie between my breasts

Your fragrance will rest upon me.”

[God:]

“Lovely bride, what shape has your beloved

That you say to Me: ‘Send for him and bring him’?

Is he the bright-eyed one, ruddy and handsome?”

[Zion:]

That is my darling, that is my beloved. Oh, rise and anoint him.”

I was asleep, but my heart was wakeful. Hark, my beloved knocks!

Let me in, my own, my darling, my faultless dove! For my head is drenched with dew, my locks with the damp of night.”

(5) I rose to let in my beloved;
My hands dripped myrrh—
My fingers, flowing myrrh—
Upon the handles of the bolt.

(14)Hurry, my beloved,
Swift as a gazelle or a young stag,
To the hills of spices!”

While the king was on his couch,

My nard gave forth its fragrance. My beloved to me is a bag of myrrh

Lodged between my breasts.

What sort of beloved is your beloved?

O fairest of women?

What sort of beloved is your beloved?

That you adjure us so?

(12) So they sent and brought him. He was ruddy-cheeked, bright-eyed, and handsome. And the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him, for this is the one.”

(16) His mouth is delicious
And all of him is delightful.
Such is my beloved,
Such is my darling,

O maidens of Jerusalem!
